Private hire means the car is booked for you before the day, not flagged down or dispatched from a queue. We run a small private hire service from Knaresborough with two vehicles and one owner-driver, which means the car that arrives is the car you booked and the person behind the wheel is the person you spoke to.
Private hire or a taxi?
A taxi is hailed or sent on the day, charged by the meter and given to whichever driver is free. Our private hire is pre-booked, priced in writing beforehand and dedicated to one client for the whole journey. There is no surge price late at night and no waiting charge sprung on you at the end.
That difference matters most on the journeys where a taxi lets people down: a four in the morning airport run, a Saturday night home from a restaurant in the Dales, or a return from a busy event when every rank has a queue.

Most of our private hire is a single journey or a simple out-and-back, quoted as a fixed price.

Booking and payment
Send the collection address, the destination, the date and an approximate time through the enquiry form or by phone. We reply with a fixed written quote, usually within the hour. If the plan involves the car waiting between journeys, we will tell you whether hourly hire or two separate transfers is cheaper.
Where we pick up
Our regular patch is Knaresborough, Harrogate, York, Leeds, Ripon, Wetherby and Ilkley. Journeys beyond that, including long runs to London and the south, are quoted on request.
Common questions
How far ahead should I book private hire?
As early as you can, especially for weekend evenings and early morning airport runs. Every booking is pre-arranged, so we cannot take hail or rank work.
Is the price fixed?
Yes. The price is agreed in writing before the journey. There is no meter and no late night surge.
Can one booking cover several stops?
Yes. Multiple stops are handled within one fixed price, agreed at the time of booking.
