Harrogate is the town we drive from more than any other. The Leeds Bradford run from here is the most common route in our diary, and the spa town's conference and dining trade keeps the car busy between airport jobs.
Leeds Bradford, honestly timed
The route is the A658 south through Pannal and Pool-in-Wharfedale: about 11 miles and 30 minutes off-peak. Between 07:30 and 09:15 the road narrows past Buttersyke Bar and the Otley bypass backs up, so we plan 45 to 55 minutes. One way in an executive car is typically £75 to £95.
We drop at the short-stay set-down outside Departures. The drop-off charge is passed through at cost.
Further afield from Harrogate
Manchester Airport is about 70 miles by the A1(M), M62, M60 and M56. The M62 between junctions 27 and 18 is reliably slow from 06:30 to 09:00 and 16:00 to 19:00, so we add 30 minutes then. For any Heathrow flight before 10:00 we leave Harrogate before 04:30, because the M25 between junctions 16 and 14 is the constraint.
York Station is about 22 miles on the A59 through Knaresborough, dropping at the front of the station. Leeds Station is about 18 miles on the A61 through Harewood, with a re-route onto the A658 when Chapel Allerton is heavy.
