House in the morning, harbour in the afternoon
This is our longest tour day: about 120 miles over nine hours. It begins with two hours at Castle Howard, north-east of York, for the house and grounds. Lunch follows in Pickering or Goathland before the drive over to Whitby for the abbey and the old town.
Starting from York shortens the morning leg considerably. From Harrogate, an earlier collection keeps the full two hours at the house.
Arriving at Castle Howard
The estate is vast and the walk from the main car park to the house is a long one. On request we arrange a private collection point so guests do not face the whole distance, which matters in wet weather.
Why the V-Class
Nine hours is a long time in any car, so we run this tour in the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, with individual forward-facing seats for up to 7 adults. April to October gives the longest daylight for the coast leg and the return inland.
