A Private Chauffeur Tour of the Yorkshire Dales — Where to Go
A full-day private chauffeur tour of the Yorkshire Dales: Bolton Abbey, Grassington, Hawes, Aysgarth Falls, with timings and dining suggestions.
A curated guide to a full-day private chauffeur tour of the Yorkshire Dales, from Bolton Abbey to Hawes, with stops, timings, and dining suggestions.
The Yorkshire Dales reward unhurried travel. With a private chauffeur, you can step out at the most photogenic points, eat where the locals eat, and avoid the parking frustrations that blunt many visitors' experience. This is the route we plan most often for guests staying in Harrogate, Ripon, and the wider Yorkshire area — refined over many seasons of repeat bookings.
Morning — Bolton Abbey and Grassington
We typically depart Harrogate at 9am, reaching Bolton Abbey within forty minutes. The Priory ruins are most atmospheric in the soft morning light, and a short walk to the river gives you the quintessential Dales view. Coffee at the Cavendish Pavilion is a fine way to break the morning before continuing north along Wharfedale.
Grassington follows, a market town that retains its cobbled charm without feeling staged. Our chauffeurs know the discreet drop-off points that avoid the central car park bottleneck.
Lunch — The Lister Arms or The Angel at Hetton
For a polished lunch in the heart of the Dales, the Lister Arms at Malham offers a refined country-pub setting with strong local sourcing. For something more ambitious, the Michelin-starred Angel at Hetton is well worth the slight detour — and as your chauffeur is at hand, a glass of wine with lunch is no obstacle.
Afternoon — Aysgarth Falls and Hawes
After lunch we head west to Aysgarth, where the triple falls of the River Ure are most impressive after summer rain. From there, Hawes offers the Wensleydale Creamery for cheese tastings and the Dales Countryside Museum for those interested in local heritage.
Returning via Leyburn or Wensleydale
Our standard route returns through Leyburn and Middleham — pretty market towns with horse racing heritage — before joining the A1 at Bedale. You'll be back in Harrogate, York, or wherever you're staying by early evening, having seen the best of the Dales at a pace that allows you to actually absorb it.
